This image could have been created due to many reasons, for instance the changing roles of women in society now. As more women are finding themselves in better, higher paid jobs. Also, socially women are seen to be more masculine and independent in modern society, which challenges typical stereotypes.
Historically or traditionally women are seen to be housewives, who should stay home and nurture the children, while the father figure of the family is the main breadwinner, however due to a changing society, women have adopted roles that men conventionally carry out, like providing for the family or dealing with the fiance of the household. "Kill Bill" incorporates this idea, as the mother is carrying out the masculine job which is fighting enemies, where as the father is looking after the child.
Furthermore, due to women's rights being changed and altered in a way to eliminate discrimination, the way audience or society perceive women has also changed, this means the stereotypical views are being challenged and more women are represented in a positive way.
The film represents a less patriarchal society, just like the movie "Flight Plan", however Jodie Foster is represented as a strong, mother who is dealing with the loss of her husband. This suggests that women are becoming more independent and can cope without a male figure being around. She is portrayed as strong mother emotionally, as well as physically due to her fighting off the Villain, to save her daughter.
This is similar to "Kill Bill" as Uma Thurman is fighting her way through many villains, to get to her daughter who has been away from her ever since she was born. both films suggest that the love of a mother is very different to any kind of affection and is vital when nurturing children. This indicates that the role of a female, has changed in society but their role of being caring and over protective has not eroded.
